Anne Hill Dinwoodey- A short sketch of her life

I was born 15 September 1840 in Wolverhampton, England. When I was a year and nine months old my Father died, leaving my Mother with seven children and one unborn (Eliza) wh was born three months later. My Mother having no means of support, it was necessary, with the help of the older children to earn the living.

Whent I was thirteen I was baptized and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1853. Three years later with my sister and husband Ambrose Greenwell sailed on the ship Wellfleet for America. Our Journey was a combination of storm and dreaded calm at times we almost stood still which delayed us for 6 long weeks. We landed in Philadelphia where we remained for three years after which we went to Florence an independent company was formed with Captain James Brown in charge preparatory to the long hard journey across the plains. Ambrose had his own wagon, a yoke of oxen and two cows which made him splendily equiped for the trip. As I was young and full of life I walked most of the way. This was the rule in order to leave room for the sick and infirm. The trip was uneventful, we had good times at night, around the campfire. The Captain understood the Indian language, therefore he made friends easily with them. We arrived in Salt Lake City August 1859, where Ambrose had many kind friends who helped us get startedin the new lands. In December 1861 I was married to a fine honorable man Henry Dinwoodey. We were belessed with eight children.

Anne Hill Dinwoodey died in 12 June 1925 being eight-five years old. Her husband and four children preceded her. Her life was full of love and kindness to all with whom she came in contact. Se was dearly loved by her children and grandchildren.
