John Roan Davis is the son of Matthew Davis and Anna Strickland. He was born 22 May 1849 in Sulfur Springs, Polk, Arizona. He married Mary Angeline Goble on 16 Feb 1881 in McCuortian, Haskell, Oklahoma which was Indian territory. Together they had seven children:

John died 12 Feb 1927 in Rush Springs, Grady Oklahoma. He died from the flu. He is buried in the Rush Springs Cemetery.
