Ethel Birdie Davis (sometimes recorded as Birdie Ethel Davis) is the daughter of John Roan Davis and Mary Angeline Goble. She was born 22 February 1906 in Indian Territory in Oklahoma. She was married to Robert Leroy Smith in March of 1924. I only have one child recorded for them:

Robert from either disease or an accident (don't know which one for sure) became paralyzed. He and his mother urged Ethel to divorce him so that she could live her life without the burden of taking care of him. She ended up divorcing him, and Robert's mother promised to take care of him.
She was later married to Earl Barrington, but that marriage also ended in divorce, this time because of abuse.
Her third and final husband was Lee Osborne Thornton. They were married 19 August 1954 Reno, Lyon, Nevada. They were very happy with their life together. In the words of my mother, "They absolutely adored each other."
Ethel died 2 December 2000 in Albany, Oregon.
